The Regulatory, Safety & Compliance Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the division-wide Regulatory Affairs, Product Safety, and Compliance programme for advanced instrumentation and related products.
This position ensures that all products meet applicable global regulatory requirements, enabling safe product development, successful commercialisation, and full lifecycle compliance across international markets. The role plays a critical part in driving regulatory excellence, compliance governance, and enabling innovation within a controlled framework.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Strategy & Compliance Leadership
- Lead the global Product Safety & Compliance programme across the division
- Ensure all applicable regulations are identified and maintained for each market where products are placed on the market
- Provide regulatory input into product lifecycle decisions, supporting safe and compliant product development
Global Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with:
- Product Safety standards
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC
- Environmental regulations
- Chemical regulations
- Dangerous Goods requirements
Serve as a subject matter expert in key regulatory frameworks including:
- CE marking
- NRTL
- FCC
- WEEE
- RoHS
- REACH
- SCIP
Product Lifecycle & Governance
- Ensure all new products meet regulatory and safety requirements from concept through commercialisation
- Provide regulatory input into stage-gate reviews within the product management process
- Represent Regulatory Safety & Compliance within cross-functional governance forums
Quality & Risk Management
- Lead the Product Quality Advisory Committee (PQAC) for field incidents
- Drive structured problem-solving using:
- CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Actions)
- RCCM (Root Cause Countermeasure Methodology)
- Support internal audits, external inspections, and regulatory compliance reviews
Regulatory Intelligence & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor emerging global regulations and assess impact on product portfolios
- Develop proactive compliance strategies and frameworks
- Define and track KPIs to measure compliance performance and process effectiveness
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with PPI/Lean methodologies
Documentation & Compliance Systems
- Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are developed and maintained globally
- Coordinate with accredited test laboratories and certification bodies
- Maintain documentation systems to support regulatory compliance across regions
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing regulatory and compliance team
- Collaborate with engineering, product, quality, and operations teams
- Engage with industry bodies and regulatory organisations
