Responsibilities
Blackfield Associates are currently partnered with a global engineering service provider to support their search for a Construction Engineer to join their clients project based in Indiana on an initial 12-month contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide field-based engineering support to construction teams, ensuring work is executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and project requirements.
- Interface between engineering design teams and construction teams to resolve technical queries, RFIs, and field issues.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and models to ensure constructability and alignment with site conditions.
- Monitor construction activities and verify installation quality across disciplines including mechanical, piping, electrical, and structural systems.
- Support coordination of construction work packages, ensuring sequencing and execution align with project schedules.
- Identify and escalate design conflicts, installation challenges, and constructability issues, driving timely resolution.
- Participate in field walkdowns, inspections, and system verification activities to support mechanical completion readiness.
- Assist in reviewing and tracking subcontractor deliverables, including installation reports, inspection records, and redline drawings.
- Support change management processes by evaluating field changes and their impact on design, schedule, and cost.
- Ensure construction work complies with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including GMP requirements.
- Collaborate with construction management, QA/QC, and commissioning teams to support seamless transition to turnover and CQV.
- Maintain accurate field documentation, progress updates, and reporting of technical issues and resolutions.
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
- Sufficient experience in construction engineering or field engineering on large capital projects.
- Experience working on pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industrial projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction practices, installation methods, and field coordination processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and 3D models.
- Experience supporting RFIs, field changes, and technical issue resolution during construction.
- Familiarity with GMP environments and quality requirements for regulated facilities.
- Strong coordination and communication skills across engineering, construction, and vendor teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, site-based environment and manage multiple priorities.
